This “distro” got my attention because of i’s aim of being easy to remaster into a full-featured distribution. As you might noticed, I’ve quoted the distro word; that because Unity Linux does not stands as a full distribution – it provides a set of packages as core packages which makes it easy to remaster into a distro targeting specific functionality.
That is, if you ever had the idea of making your own linux distro it’s a good idea to start with Unity. On the other hand it might be a very useful tool for schools, small business or other groups of people which would like to have their own Linux distribution. Heredown is a video showing the what Unity has to offer:
First contact conclusions:
- Even if it’s lightweight and quite stable I would prefer Gnome rather then the default XFCE desktop environement;
- Good support for a large variety of languages;
- Not user-friendly - you should be very familiar with linux to use this distro;
- The remastering wizard-tool provided it’s less documented and quite hard to use for a newbie.
Even it’s not so “polished” as other distros, Unity just fits it’s scope.
